I Love You Because is a musical set in modern-day New York. It is based on Jane Austen's novel Pride and Prejudice. It features lyrics by Ryan Cunningham, set to music by Joshua Salzman. It is a sweet and funny romantic comedy about contemporary dating in New York City. The two young couples in the story navigate through tricky issues such as exes, rebound time, commitment, and knowing when the right person comes along. The Wall Street Journal called the original production "everything an off-Broadway musical should be...a charming piece of work that will send you home smiling." The musical orginated as Ryan Cunninghams and Joshua Salzman's thesis project at NYUs graduate musical theatre writing program. With permission and in conjunction with the authors and Theatre Rights Worldwide, Alonso High School has created the high school edition of the two act musical. The piece is still PG-13, but is more accessible to high school age students.
